Hawaii to wear throwback white uniform vs. Ohio State (Photo)

Hawaii will sport a white throwback uniform with some colorful rainbows for their upcoming game against Ohio State.

If you can’t beat ’em, at least be fashionable.

That seems to be the thinking behind the Hawaii’s decision to roll out a new road retro uniform for Saturday’s contest against No. 1 Ohio State.

According to the school’s website, “The all-white Under Armour uniform will feature rainbow stripes on the shoulder pad and rainbow stripes down the sides of the pant. The white top is patterned after the kelly green home retro set the team has been sporting for the past two seasons. A white helmet with green facemasks and 1980s rainbow logo will accompany the uniform.”

In truth, it really doesn’t matter what the Rainbow Warriors wear Saturday. They’re 40-point underdogs against the Buckeyes, and nothing from last week’s narrow win over Colorado gives us any reason to think Hawaii can cover the spread. But at least they’ll be colorful. And besides, it’s always better to look good than to feel good.

Most of the time, we’re not big fans of the retro look. But the Hawaii uniform seems to be receiving near-unanimous praise on Twitter. Give the Rainbow Warriors credit. They may be traveling a long way just to lose by 50, but at least they’re going to look good in warmups.

I thought you weren’t supposed to wear white after Labor Day? Does that not apply to football uniforms?
