Butch Jones tells Oklahoma LB to ‘have some damn class’ after Sooners beat Vols

Tennessee blew a 17-point lead at home and afterward Vols head coach Butch Jones took a personal shot at Oklahoma linebacker Eric Striker.

Butch Jones had the Oklahoma Sooners right where he wanted him. Then he didn’t as the Vols blew their biggest home lead in the history of the program and afterward Jones wasn’t too pleased and let his frustration show by telling Oklahoma linebacker Eric Striker to “have some damn class.”

This relayed from Jason Kersey of The Oklahoman and Striker believes they are in connection with his postgame celebration and not his comments about the SEC earlier in the week about everyone fawning over the league.

At least one Oklahoma player, Hatari Boyd, flipped off the Tennessee fans after the game so perhaps Jones was reacting to that act, because it’s an unusual act for Jones who has rebuilt the Vols program to a point where many predicted them to win the SEC East this year.

They still may win the SEC East but they didn’t look great in the second half when the offense, in particular quarterback Joshua Dobbs disappeared in the clutch and watched the Sooners win on a Dobbs interception in double overtime.

Seeing the opponent celebrate on your home field after letting a game slip away in that way is sure to get your blood flowing and in the heat of the moment you can say and do something you may later regret.

We’ll see if Jones has a statement on this and what prompted him to make this comment toward Striker, but it’s not a good look and comes off as sour grapes after his coaching cost his team a win they should have had.
