Utah QB Travis Wilson could miss Fresno State game with shoulder injury

Utah quarterback Travis Wilson may miss the Utes upcoming game with Fresno State with a shoulder injury.

Running back Devontae Booker will likely receive another heavy workload next Saturday when the Utes visit Fresno State.

Matthew Piper of the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Utah senior quarterback Travis Wilson is questionable for the non-conference battle in the Central Valley after spraining his left (non-throwing) shoulder in Friday’s 24-14 win over Utah State.

The good news for Utah: Even if Wilson sits against the Bulldogs, he’s expected to be fine for the Utes’ Pac-12 opener at Oregon on Sept. 26.

Wilson was 9-of-12 for 76 yards when he left Friday’s game in the second quarter after running for 38 yards. The fourth-year starter watched the second half from the sideline as senior Kendal Thompson took over. Utah’s offense was pretty conservative with Thompson behind center, but there were some bright spots.

Freshman wideout Britain Covey accounted for 61 yards and helped draw attention from Booker, who rushed 31 times for 120 impressive yards. Booker has 53 carries for 189 yards and two TDs in his first two games while attracting major buzz from the national press.

We fully expect Utah to roll over Fresno State next week even without Wilson, but we’ll turn in just to watch two great running backs: Booker and the Bulldogs’ Marteze Waller, who could also play at the next level. We wouldn’t be surprised if the two combine for 60 carries next week.

If you’ve seen both backs, let us know who you think NFL scouts would put first. Booker is more versatile, but Waller has the size NFL coaches love. We’re going with Waller for now.
