Coaches poll Top 25 for Week 3: Three things to know
Here’s the full coaches poll Top 25 for Week 3.
Last week saw Alabama jump TCU for the No. 2 spot and this week we have another Big 12 team getting passed with Michigan State moving to No. 4 after beating then-No. 7 Oregon on Saturday and Baylor dropping one spot to No. 5.

I’m surprised to see Oregon drop from No. 7 to No. 13 despite losing by a field goal on the road to the No. 4 team in the country. I’d still have them ahead of Florida State, USC, Georgia and Clemson who rounded out the top 10.
Elsewhere in the Top 25 poll sees the Auburn Tigers fall from No. 6 to No. 15 after they needed overtime to get past FCS opponent Jacksonville State. Last week the SEC had a record 10 teams in the top 25 but that number has been reduced to seven after Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi State all lost and fell out of the rankings. Somehow, Oklahoma didn’t move up one spot after beating a ranked SEC opponent on the road in Tennessee. That seems odd.
The SEC never should have had 10 teams ranked, including the entire SEC West in the first place so this week is a case of the market correcting itself. Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi State can all get back in the Top 25 later this year, but they’re flawed teams who were exposed in Week 2.
With those teams out, BYU was the main beneficiary as the Cougars moved up from the to No. 22 to move up eight spots after their second win in Hail Mary fashion as they knocked off Boise State, who dropped out of the Top 25. Can BYU remain this lucky with UCLA and Michigan remaining on their September schedule?
