Missouri QB Maty Mauk didn’t have his greatest game today against the UConn Huskies, and was benched in the 4th quarter after being booed by fans. His response was, well, not good.

When you play quarterback in the SEC, and you have to expect pressure, cheers, and boos. It comes with the territory. Missouri quarterback has had his fair share of cheers and pressure since taking over for James Franklin in 2013, but lately he hasn’t been performing to the level expected by Mizzou fans, and they let him know it today.

Mauk was the recipient of several strains of the boo chorus after throwing an interception and looking like he was sleepwalking through the game against UConn. After being pulled in the 4th quarter by head coach Gary Pinkel, those jeers grew louder.

So, Mr. Mauk did what any experienced, intelligent and winning quarterback would do…

He took a swing back at the fans.

Ugh.

Um, news flash Maty…you weren’t on the field by the end of the game.

Probably not the best reaction, and I’m sure that statement will draw some fire of its own from his head coach, a notably even-keeled and understated guy.

With the upsets and near-misses that have plagued the SEC over the past couple of weeks, it probably would have been best for Mauk to just give one of the canned PR answers rather than lash out at fans. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see highly recruited freshman quarterback Drew Lock start the Tigers next game against Kentucky next week
