It happened to Lamarr Houston of the Chicago Bears last year when he celebrated a sack, it happened to Bill Gramatica years ago celebrating a field goal and today, Notre Dame’s Drue Tranquill looked like he suffered a severe knee injury when he jumped up to celebrate a pass break-up and crumbled in a heap.
Sports Illustrated shares the Vine of the play.
On the NBC broadcast of the game color analyst Jonathan Vilma said at halftime Tranquill was playing an outstanding first half and Hines Ward said it’s natural to want to celebrate after making a big play but sometimes stuff happens.
Hopefully, this isn’t a season-ending injury for Tranquill like it was for Houston and Gramatica and other football players who suffered an injury after celebrating.
I don’t think it will do anything to dampen the enthusiasm of football players in college or the NFL but you do have to feel bad for Tranquill who was doing something he’s done a million times and a million times before he came down just fine.
