3. Arizona is still lurking
The Arizona Wildcats are the defending Pac-12 south champions, but no one is talking much about them. The hype over UCLA and Josh Rosen and the talk about the depth and talent of the USC Trojans dominates the headlines, but in the background is the Arizona Wildcats grinding out wins. On Saturday, Rich Rodriguez’s squad exploded against Northern Arizona, scoring 77 points while running all over the lumberjacks to the tune of 499 yards rushing.
That was a dominant performance, and exactly what Wildcat fans have waited for after uninspiring wins over Texas-San Antonio and Nevada. The Arizona defense held NAU to just 75 yard rushing on 41 attempts, and allowed the offense to put up record numbers. 77 points and 792 yards both set team records, and this group is kicking things into high gear in anticipation of their Pac-12 opener in week three.
Do not sleep on Arizona. Rodriguez has shown an ability to win the big game, and that ability will be put to the test next week when they host UCLA. If Rosen struggles again, look for the Wildcats to jump all over the Bruins and stake a claim for capturing another division title.
