Turning to the non-conference games between the ACC and the Big 10, the ACC was able to win the day with a record of 3-2, but could have been 4-1 if it had not been for a game-winning 57-yard field goal out of Iowa’s (3-0) kicker, Marshall Koehn, that doomed Pittsburgh (2-1) and evaded an overtime finish by defeating the Panthers 27-24.

If there are two things that the Panthers might have done correct, it was sticking with quarterback Nathan Peterman over last years starter in Chad Voytik and preparing true freshman Jordan Whitehead for life as a safety, as he added 16 tackles to the stat sheet and has been a large contributor to the Pitt defense stiffening up the last two weeks.

In the three games the ACC was victorious, they won by an average of 21.3 points and in the two games they were defeated, lost by an average of just six points. The wins were huge and the loss’ were close, kind of what you expect from the defenses that the ACC has from top-to-bottom.

Miami (3-0) was able to hold off Nebraska (1-2) in overtime to secure a 36-33 victory after blowing a 20 point lead in the fourth quarter. He still got the win and is 3-0, but Miami head coach Al Golden seems to be on a perpetual hot seat.
