The best win of the weekend for the conference occurred in the midst of the pseudo Big Ten vs. ACC challenge when Virginia Tech (2-1) and the Hokies dismantled the Boilermakers of Purdue, 51-24.  It was a major victory for Virginia Tech against a lowly team on an annual basis. So you ask, how is it possible that it could be a major victory?

Considering the fluctuation the offense has been in since losing starting quarterback Michael Brewer for the season, it is a monumental moral victory on top of the ever-important tally mark now in the win column for the Hokies. Quarterback Brenden Motley improved mightily while gaining his composure, throwing for 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns and crossing the goal line once on the ground.

The main target for the day was one of the top receivers in the conference in Isaiah Ford, who caught six passes for 128 yards. VT did the majority of their damage on the ground, as I mentioned, Motley was influential in the success on the ground, but six others found carries as well. All of which totaled 238 yards on 56 carries. “Beamerball” made another appearance as Anthony Shegog returned a blocked punt to the end zone for a touchdown. Nothing says Virginia Tech more than that and a resurgence in Blacksburg could result in a division title.
