Auburn DE Carl Lawson out extended period with hip injury

In a big day for news coming out of Auburn, Tigers defensive end Carl Lawson will miss an ‘extended period’ with a hip injury that has already cost him action this year.

Not much has gone right for the Auburn Tigers this year. They were the preseason pick to win the SEC at SEC Media Days in the summer, quarterback Jeremy Johnson was a Heisman candidate and Will Muschamp was going to make this defense one of the best in the nation.

None of those preseason storylines looks to be coming to fruition this year. Auburn was just dominated by Leonard Fournette to the tune of 228 yards and three touchdowns and Johnson was benched in favor of Sean White.

And the defense doesn’t look like they’ll turn things around with defensive end Carl Lawson out for an “extended period” with a hip injury that’s already cost him time this year.

Lawson was an All-SEC Freshman two years ago when he came to The Plains as the nation’s No. 2 overall recruit and looked like a future All-American and first round pick. He missed his sophomore season with a torn ACL but expectations were high for Lawson this year after he looked great in the offseason and played a dominant first half against Louisville in the opener.

Sadly, it now looks like Lawson will never reach his full potential at Auburn because he’s been prone to injury, but the hope is Lawson will be able to come back before the season is over and give a lift to the Auburn defense that has really missed him.
