Oklahoma State vs. Texas

Charlie strong and the Texas Longhorns (1-2) look to defeat the undefeated #24 Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0) on Saturday at home in Austin, Texas.

The Longhorns debuted a new star quarterback in Jerrod Heard against California last week and he shined. The sophomore brought Texas to within one point from a 45-24 deficit, but the team lost 45-44 after a missed extra point with 1:11 left in the game.

Oklahoma State comes in undefeated, but they haven’t been tested this season. The Cowboys have beaten Central Michigan, Central Arkansas, and UTSA pretty comfortably this season; the closest game came against Central Michigan when Oklahoma State won 24-13.

Details for Saturday’s game are below:

Date: Saturday, September 26th

Start Time: 3:30 ET

Location: Austin, Texas

Stadium: Darrell K. Royal Stadium

TV Info: ESPN

Live Stream: Watch ESPN

Radio: Texas Sports

Keys to Victory

The Longhorn’s success rides on the play of Jerrod Heard. After setting a school record for total yards against Cal, there will be lofty expectations for Heard coming into this game. It will be important for play-caller Jay Norvell to put him in situations to prosper; the Cowboys are going to put up points, so the Longhorns will need to keep up.

Also, the Longhorns will need to apply pressure to Cowboy’s quarterback Mason Rudolph. Central Michigan forced Rudolph into some bad throws, which helped them keep the game close. In this game, disruption will be just as good as production.

Oklahoma State will need to play disciplined and avoid mistakes like turnovers and penalties on Saturday. The atmosphere in Austin should be electric, which could be tough on the Cowboys. If Mason Rudolph and the offense can score early, it should kill the crowd and benefit Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys should also be able to exploit a weak Texas defense. The Longhorns haven’t played well on defense during their first three games, so head coach Mike Gundy should be able to take advantage and score lots of points.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Oklahoma State -3

Money Line: Texas +140

O/U: 61.5

Prediction

The Longhorns are coming into this game with a ton of energy for a 1-2 team who’s only victory came against Rice. Have they really turned the tables with Jay Norvell and Jerrod Heard?

The Cowboys have yet to face a legitimate team, so this almost seems like the perfect storm for Texas to get the upset.

Final Score: Texas: 41, Oklahoma State: 38
