Michigan running back De’Veon Smith was on his way to a career day but he got hurt and the Wolverines leading rusher had to be carted off.
De’Veon Smith had 125 yards and was well on his way to a career afternoon for the Wolverines as they had no trouble rushing against the No. 22 BYU Cougars. But he will not be celebrating after the game after having to be carted off with an injury.
Smith has been a stud in the Michigan backfield so far this season with 206 yards and three touchdowns, but after he tried to walk off on his own power, he crumbled to the ground and had to be carted off.
This could be a devastating blow for Michigan as they prepare to enter Big Ten play without their best playmaker on offense. They’ll have to rely even more on USC transfer Ty Isaac with Smith out for an unknown amount of time.
If I had to make a guess, I would expect Smith to miss some time with the lower-body injury. At it could be a serious injury that puts the rest of his season in jeopardy.
But we’ll know more when Michigan updates his status and he undergoes x-rays and an MRI to discover the extend of the injury.
