One month into the season here are the top five contenders for the Heisman Trophy.

An argument can be made for more than a dozen players to be legitimate Heisman Trophy candidates after one month so the bottom of this list will be a fluid situation for the next month as players play their way in and out of the top five.

I feel confident the two running backs who made up the list are locks to be finalists if they stay healthy, but the three quarterbacks who make up the other three spots could easily find themselves out of the conversation.

That would open the door for a defensive player like Robert Nkemdiche or Myles Garrett to possibly enter the conversation. I’d love to see that happen, considering the odds are stacked against them, I didn’t include them in the first release of the Heisman rankings.

I didn’t want to release them in the first month of the year because the sample size is too small, but for the rest of the year there will be a top five ranking released on Sunday morning.
