National Title Odds: Ohio State remains favorite entering October

National title odds to win the college football playoff entering October sees Ohio State on top despite a rocky first month of their title defense.

The Ohio State Buckeyes haven’t looked like the best team in college football for the first four weeks of the season but the defending champions are still the favorites in the eyes of the betting public.

With 7-4 odds, Urban Meyer’s team is one spot ahead of Big Ten rival and the team chasing them in the polls with the Michigan State Spartans getting 8-1 odds. Then a trio of SEC teams Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss round out the top five. It’s the Rebels who are the lowest odds despite the highest ranking in the Top 25.

Meanwhile, the oddsmakers favor Baylor slightly over TCU with the Bears getting 10-1 odds while the Horned Frogs receive 12-1 odds. Also receiving those same 12-1 odds is Texas A&M with Notre Dame at 14-1 and Alabama at 18-1 rounding out the top 10.

Ohio State: 7-4
Michigan State: 8-1
Georgia: 9-1
LSU: 9-1
Ole Miss: 10-1
Baylor: 10-1
TCU: 12-1
Texas A&M: 12-1
Notre Dame 14-1
Alabama: 18-1
USC: 20-1
Clemson: 25-1
Oklahoma: 25-1
UCLA: 28-1

It’s interesting to note the omission of the Florida State Seminoles who are undefeated and ranked in the top 10 but the Clemson Tigers are getting the 12th best odds. That leads me to believe the betting public has more faith in the oft-injured Deshaun Watson at quarterback than they do Everett Golson.

What team do you think could still make a case for the national title but isn’t among the betting favorites?
