Alabama’s 38-10 victory over No. 8 Georgia last week in Athens tied the largest margin of victory on the road for the Crimson Tide over a top-ten team in the history of the program. The Tide scored its first four touchdowns via the run, pass, special teams and defense, which marked an incredibly balanced domination of the Bulldogs. Most importantly, Alabama pulled to 1-1 in conference play this season, which keeps their hopes alive in the races for both the SEC title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Arkansas also picked up a big victory on the road Saturday, and though it came on a much smaller stage, it was nearly as important. With a 24-20 upset over Tennessee, the Razorbacks avoided a fourth consecutive 0-2 start in conference play. Now 2-3 overall, but 1-1 in the SEC, Arkansas is still very much alive in the division race. And, by getting back in the win column following three straight losses, and after nearly knocking off Alabama last season in Fayetteville before falling 14-13, the Hogs should be confident that this is a game they can win.
Of course, an Arkansas victory appears unlikely. Alabama is once again ranked among the nation’s top ten while the Razorbacks are very much in danger of falling to qualify for a bowl game because of a disastrous 1-3 start to the season. However, the are three key matchups to the contest, which if Arkansas can get the edge could help the Hogs pull off a big upset.
