The momentum Ole Miss built through the first four weeks of the season came to a screeching with a 38-10 loss to Florida in Gainesville last week. On the surface, the loss appeared to be the result of a complete breakdown on both offense and defense, but the Rebels have trended down for several weeks now.

Though they are still the best offense in the SEC, statistically speaking thanks to an average of 45.8 points and 500 total yards per game, including an SEC best 327.4 passing yards, the Rebels are suffering through an unfortunate trend in which they have scored fewer points in each consecutive game. Ole Miss also turned the ball over four times. On defense, the Rebels allowed a season-high 38 points, which is the continuation of a similar downward slope (16 points against Vanderbilt aside).

Ole Miss has also been ravaged by injuries (nearly a dozen players, including Tony Conner, C.J. Johnson, Robert Conyers and Jaylen Walton are expected to miss the game), but thankfully New Mexico State should be a short-term cure for those issues.

The Aggies have averaged more than 30 points per game, but are 0-4 with only one of those losses coming against a Power 5 opponent (61-13 against Florida in Week 1). Expect the Rebels to get back on track with a big win Saturday. However, the troubles the Rebels have faced recently may be too much for them to score 70-plus like they did early in the season – and even if they do, the Aggies may be able to move the football against a heavily wounded Ole Miss defense. Take New Mexico State to cover.
