Arkansas at Alabama: Full highlights, final score and more

Arkansas kept it close early, and led at halftime, but the Razorbacks upset bid fell short in a 27-14 loss to Alabama Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.

It took a while, but Alabama flexed its muscle in the second half Saturday night in a 27-14 victory over a pesky Arkansas squad.

More from Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide held a 204-77 edge in total yards in the first half, but turned the football over twice and missed two field goals, which allowed Arkansas to take a 7-3 lead into the locker room after the first 30 minutes.

The three points Alabama scored before halftime were the fewest the Crimson Tide have scored in the first half of a game in four years. However, Alabama scored 20 consecutive points in the second half to improve to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in SEC play ahead of next week’s huge SEC West clash against Texas A&M.

Derrick Henry found the end zone on a one-yard run with 2:44 left to play to push the Crimson Tide’s lead to 27-7, which marked the 11th consecutive game in which the junior running back ran for a touchdown to set a school record. Henry got off to a slow start with just four yards on four carries on Alabama’s first offensive series, which ended in a field goal, but finished with 95 yards on 27 carries.

The Razorbacks added a 54-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Allen to Dominique Reed, but couldn’t recover the onside kick, and fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the SEC.

But the Hogs were in control early. Just before halftime, Arkansas got on the board thanks to premium field position when Alabama quarterback Jake Coker missed high on a pass intended for Richard Mullaney, and it bounced off the receiver and into the hands of Arkansas defensive back Santos Ramirez.

An 18-yard return and an unsportsmanlike penalty called on Alabama tackle Cam Robinson gave the Razorbacks possession at the Crimson Tide 12-yard line. It was the first time all night the Hogs reached Alabama territory. Three plays later, Brandon Allen found Drew Morgan wide open in the end zone for a four-yard touchdown pass with 1:29 left on the clock. A promising Alabama drive ended with the second missed field goal of the evening for Alabama kicker Adam Griffith, which preserved the halftime lead for the Hogs.

The two teams swapped field position for most of the third quarter until Alabama struck with an 81-yard bomb from Coker to Calvin Ridley, who finished with a team-leading 140 receiving yards on nine catches.

On the ensuing possession, Alabama took over with terrific field possession following a failed Arkansas fake punt. Seven plays and 43 yards later, Coker found Mullaney in the end zone to push the lead to 17-7. The senior quarterback completed 24 of 33 passes for 262 yards with two second half touchdowns after being intercepted twice in the first half.

Things got worse on the next drive for the Hogs when Allen was intercepted by Eddie Jackson, which gave the Crimson Tide control in the red zone, and Alabama added a 35-yard field goal. Allen finished 15-for-32 for 176 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

The Alabama defense was dominant most of the evening, and held Arkansas to just 220 total yards. Running back Alex Collins – who came in with at least 150 yards and a touchdown in three consecutive games – gained only 26 yards on 12 carries. Linebacker Reggie Ragland led the Tide with eight tackles and had one of three Alabama sacks.
