Texas coach Charlie Strong gets lifted in the air by players after beating Oklahoma (Video)
Charlie Strong picked up his biggest win as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns and his players responded by carrying him off the field in jubilant celebration.
No, Texas didn’t just win the national title, but they did beat the rival Oklahoma Sooners, which is a pretty close second for the fans in the Lone Star State who got a much-needed win in the Red River Shootout on Saturday.
Texas took control of the game early and never relented down the stretch when the Sooners made it a one-possession game in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. This win comes one week after Texas trailed 30-0 at the end of the first quarter against TCU last week and the chatter about Strong’s future in Austin coming into question again.
So needless to say this was a win that Strong needed, the players needed, the university needed and one the fans desperately needed against their bitter rivals. This is the sixth time in eight tries an unranked Texas team beat a ranked Oklahoma team and the Longhorns celebrated in style, lifting their head coach in the air like he was crowd surfing at a concert.
