Nick Chubb injury update: Georgia RB out indefinitely with 3 torn knee ligaments

Georgia running back Nick Chubb is out for the season after tearing three knee ligaments against Tennessee.

Nick Chubb will miss the rest of the season after tearing his PCL and two other knee ligaments on the first play from scrimmage in Georgia’s loss to the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday.

Chubb’s mother posted on Facebook the diagnosis last Sunday morning, saying it could have been worse and doctors are waiting for the swelling to go down before going into surgery. Once the surgery is performed a timeline for his rehab and when he could possibly return to the field will become more clear.

This is not a career-ending injury, but it is one that will require months of rehabilitation to get back to where he was prior to the injury. And prior to the injury, he was one of the best running backs in the nation and a potential first or second round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

He’ll have time to return to full health and continue his career, but be patient with him and don’t expect him to return to the field as if he was returning from a sprained ankle or even a torn ACL. We see backs return from torn ACL’s all the time, like Keith Marshall or Todd Gurley, but three torn ligaments at once is a tough injury to work back from.

We saw South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore suffer a similar injury when he was a junior against Tennessee and was a fourth round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers but was forced to retire in his second year in the NFL without playing in a game. Hopefully Chubb won’t have his NFL dreams come to a crushing halt.

Chubb is in good spirits according to his mom and you hope their faith will get them through this tough time.

As for Georgia, their SEC East hopes are all but dashed with their second straight conference loss and the Florida Gators still undefeated. They’ll have to rely on Sony Michel to be the lead back with Chubb out indefinitely and Marshall to support the rushing attack that is without Chubb.
