Boston College head coach Steve Addazio announced he would name a starting quarterback later in the week.

The Boston College Eagles have employed a two-quarterback system as of late, but it seems that will change. Monday, head coach Steve Addazio announced that he will put one quarterback under center, and that he will make his choice later this week.

Freshmen Troy Flutie and Jeff Smith have split the duties ever since sophomore signal-caller Darius Wade broke his left ankle against Florida State on September 18.

Smith is more of a rushing quarterback, ranking fourth on the team with 257 total yards on 38 carries, which breaks down to just a shade under seven yards a carry. Flutie is more of a traditional passing quarterback and leads the team with 336 passing yards and three touchdowns.

In the loss to Wake Forest, neither could get into a rhythm or find success. Smith went 4 of 12 passing with 56 yards and an interception while Flutie went 2 of 8 with 18 yards as the Eagles lost a heart-breaking affair by a 3-0 score.

If there were any positives to take away from this, both of them ran the ball with success. Smith ran the ball 11 times for 44 yards and Flutie did his part as well, rushing the rock four times for nine yards, including a 14-yard run that was his longest of the contest.

Stability is needed if the Eagles want to ignite their offense, and it seems the program will begin that process as they look to rebound and face a tough Clemson team on the road. In a season marked by ups and downs, the Eagles and their fans hope that this change will allow them to soar to new heights.
