South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier and Twitter was full of reactions.
Steve Spurrier is retiring after 26 seasons and 228 wins. He won a Heisman Trophy as a quarterback then coached Danny Wuerffel to a national title and a Heisman to be the first to win one and coach a player to win one when he was with the Florida Gators.

He’s one of the greatest of all-time and his 11-year run with the Gators was one of the best modern dynasties you’ll ever see in college football. He won one national championship and appeared in another and has six SEC championships on his resume.
Spurrier is the winningest head coach at Florida and South Carolina but began his career with the Duke Blue Devils where he built that program up from the ground. His two years in the NFL with the Washington Redskins didn’t work out for the Head Ball Coach but he’s on the Mount Rushmore of SEC head football coaches with Bear Bryant, General Neyland and by the time he retires, Nick Saban.
It’ll be tough to imagine SEC Media Days without him and postgame press conferences will not be the same without him in front of a microphone. With Spurrier retiring, here is a sampling of the reactions gathered on Twitter.
SEC should invite Steve Spurrier back to every football media days just for the great quotes. He would be perfect as guest analyst.

One of fav HBC quotes. Reporter asked him about being offensive guru. He said “Guru?” You gonna use that? How about … offensive mastermind!"

And maybe Spurrier's most famous quip, fired at rival Tennessee: 'You can’t spell Citrus without U-T.”

Spurrier when a fire at Auburn destroyed 20 books: "The real tragedy was that 15 hadn't been colored yet."

Spurrier awakened a sleeping giant at Fla & turned it into a juggernaut. He led Gamecocks to greatest yrs. Wish the finish was more fitting

You know, Steve Spurrier paired with Brent Musburger on the SEC Network could be a hoot.

Although, hard for me to believe HBC would give up midseason. Always stressed to us to play it out no matter what. Just keep playing.

We had our head butting competetions, but the guy will always be 1 of the best to ever do it! Hats off to you @SC_HBC! You turned SC around!
— Stephen Garcia (@StephenGarcia) October 13, 2015
@SC_HBC Spurrier to me once after an interception: "Danny, It's not your fault...It's my fault for putting you in the game." Love you Coach!
— Danny Wuerffel (@DannyWuerffel) October 13, 2015
That last line from Wuerffel sums it up, doesn’t it?
He’s an original, a pioneer, a Hall of Famer and now he’s former head coach Steve Spurrier. It’s going to take a while to get used to that, but here’s to hitting them straight on the links, HBC!
