Boston College and Connecticut will resume their rivalry beginning in 2016.

An old rivalry will once again be renewed. On Tuesday, it was announced the Boston College Eagles and Connecticut Huskies will play each other beginning in 2016.

A highly anticipated series, this will give the Eagles seven home games in total next season, which includes the Georgia Tech contest set to take place in Dublin, Ireland.

As it stands now, the Eagles will have an out of conference schedule that includes local ties as Massachusetts is also in the mix as well as Buffalo and another FCS opponent. This will bring down the total number of FCS opponents on the Eagles’ schedule to one, instead of the two Boston College played this year.

The Eagles last played the Huskies in 2004 and won the contest 27-7. Out of 10 contests between the two programs, Connecticut has yet to win a matchup.

Although this will not help Boston College much in terms of their strength of schedule, as a BC fan, I am excited by this news. It will be fun to play a local team, and the game will certainly have a rivalry type of feel to it. Both schools recruit each state heavily, so it will be exciting to see former Massachusetts high school players donning the Husky Blue and White and former Connecticut high school stars sporting Eagle Maroon and Gold.

This game could be big for both programs especially as they jockey for recruits. Although a win for either side may not be a deciding factor for a recruit, it could be a contributing one.

Many Boston College fans have begged for this series to resume, and now they have their wish. It will just add to the excitement in what is shaping up to be schedule-wise, an exciting 2016 campaign for Steve Addazio and company.
