Boise State on upset alert as Utah State has 35-point halftime lead
The No. 21 Boise State Broncos are in trouble against the Utah State Aggies and face a potentially insurmountable halftime deficit.
Two early fumbles and a stagnant Boise State offense gave Utah State early momentum and they haven’t let up at halftime. Utah State leads 45-10 and has kept Boise State to 104 yards as the defense has been stellar in the first two quarters.
Utah State forced Boise State’s quarterback Brett Rypien to throw three interceptions and the team lost a total of four fumbles. That totals seven turnovers in the first half!
The Aggies have only lost a fumble to the Broncos. However, one of the interceptions ended up being a blessing for the Broncos as the Utah State defensive back immediately fumbled it back to Boise State.
The Broncos have tried to build momentum, but things aren’t just coming together. There’s a lot of time left to turn things around. Last year Boise State had a terrible performance at Air Force for their second loss, but they were able to recover and win out their remaining games, including a Fiesta Bowl victory over the Arizona Wildcats.
Boise State should be able to recover after tonight and win out. Whether or not they can recover and win this game in a miraculous fashion is still up in the air at the half.
Boise State leads the series against Utah State 15-4-0 but it looks like the ‘4’ will be replaced with a ‘5’ after one more half of play as the Broncos look like they quit in this game that got out of control early.
