Michigan State recovers fumble for TD to stun Michigan on final play (Video)
The Michigan Wolverines just lost in the most heartbreaking fashion and to the rival Michigan State Spartans in their home stadium to make matters worse.
Michigan State didn’t lead for one second in the game at Michigan until they scored an improbable touchdown as time expired on a fumbled punt from Michigan.
Michigan punter Blake O’Neill fumbled the snap with 10 seconds on the clock as Michigan tried to salt the game away but he couldn’t corral the snap or fall on the ball in a comedy of errors for the Wolverines as they suffered one of the worst losses in college football history.
Jalen Watts-Jackson scooped up the loose ball and had a caravan in front of him to block for him as he crossed the plane of the end zone to give the Spartans their first lead of the game as time expired.
The turnover was Michigan’s only one of the day and resulted in Michigan State’s 27-23 victory. Michigan State outgained the Wolverines in total yards, but Michigan was able to hold Michigan State to 0/4 on fourth down conversions and capitalized in scoring position. Connor Cook completed just 18/38 passes for Michigan State, but totaled 328 yards despite some big drops from the Spartan receivers.
This really is a pretty rough loss for Michigan to take. I can only sympathize so far with Michigan players, coaches and fans, because losses like this are rare. Alabama fans know how it’s like to lose on the last second when Auburn returned a missed field goal at the end of regulation two years ago, but that game was headed for overtime. This game was all set up for Michigan to win until they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
