Following a 35-28 win over Florida and an Alabama victory over Texas A&M, it’s clear that LSU is No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings. But who is No. 2?

And then there was one.

With a 35-28 victory over Florida Saturday night at Tiger Stadium (coupled with Alabama’s 41-23 victory over Texas A&M), LSU is the lone undefeated team remaining in the SEC, and therefore deserves this week’s No. 1 spot in the SEC Power Rankings. The Tigers have been the best team in the league to date, thanks in large part to the best player in the conference (and arguably the nation) in running back Leonard Fournette, who piled up 180 more yards and two more touchdowns against what had been one of the SEC’s best run defenses.

But who is No. 2?

Florida has certainly made a case, and the Gators topped these very rankings in the last two weeks. Even without suspended quarterback Will Grier, Florida can (and should) win the SEC East, but the Gators’ signature win over Ole Miss doesn’t look as good as it did a few weeks ago, especially after the Rebels were dominated over the final three quarters by Memphis in a 37-24 loss Saturday.

Texas A&M was a regular contender for the top spot after opening the season 4-0 overall and 2-0 in SEC play, but the Aggies were dominated in a 41-23 loss to Alabama Saturday. The Crimson Tide stuffed A&M’s running game and picked off four passes – three of which they returned for touchdowns – in one of the most impressive defensive performances of the season.

Bama looks like a playoff contender, but were they impressive enough to jump up to No. 2 in our rankings?
