The third season for Bret Bielema was supposed to be the one that put Arkansas in position to contend for nine wins and be a player in the SEC West and pull off an upset or two this year. With a 2-4 record, the first half has resembled that last two years when the Hogs were the worst team in the division.

They rank 11th in scoring offense and ninth in scoring defense as this team looks to be stuck in football purgatory. They’re not entirely awful, but they’re not good either.

Bielema brings on his share of criticism for how he goes about his business on and off the field but he tried to be the bully in the conference and talked a big game at SEC Media Days, again, to only withdraw after his team got punched in the mouth.

With six games left on the schedule, Arkansas has to find a way to win an SEC game from Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State and Missouri if they’re going to get to a bowl game for the second year in a row. If they don’t beat Auburn, their best chance will be in the season finale with Mizzou coming to town, but possibly getting to six wins in a year when they were hoping for nine or 10 is a disappointment to be sure.
