Georgia Tech won the ACC Coastal last year and the Orange Bowl behind quarterback Justin Thomas and one of the nation’s best rushing attacks. With Thomas returning, it seemed like his presence would soften the losses of their second, third, fourth and fifth-leading rushers, but in hindsight losing that much production was too much to overcome.

Paul Johnson is a fine head coach but you take that much senior production out of one position group on a team dependent on running the ball in this option attack and even Vince Lombardi would have had a tough time winning games.

As a result, Georgia Tech is 2-5 after losing their fifth straight after beating Alcorn State and Tulane the first two weeks. Four of the losses were to ranked opponents with the fifth being a seven-point loss to North Carolina and the Ramblin Wreck needs to win four of their next five games to get bowl eligibility, which is a disappointing development for the reigning Orange Bowl winners
