The Georgia football program is suffering through yet another disappointing season, and head coach Mark Richt is at the tip of the spear of blame. But who would Georgia get to replace him?

Let’s get this nice and sparkling clear from the start – I’m not jumping off the Richt train, in fact, I’m still one of his top supporters. I think the program is in good hands, and Richt will yet prove the doubters wrong and find some long overdue hardware for the Butts-Mehre trophy case.

But one of the arguments I actually don’t like seeing when people come to Richt’s defense is the age old “who would we get to replace him that’s better?”

The truth is, it doesn’t matter who the coach is…there’s always someone better out there. The trick is finding them and getting them to sign on the dotted line. In most cases, these searches end up fruitless or saddle a program with an even worse coach (right, Tennessee and USC fans?).

Besides, there are much better and more effective arguments for keeping Richt around.

So let’s just say for argument’s sake that the need to replace Richt were to happen within the next year or so. There are some potential candidates out there, and with these guys it can be reasonable to hope that the Georgia football program would at least stay on a winning course.

So who would replace Mark Richt? Here’s my list of names (in no particular order) of coaches from all different parts of the country and in different stages of their careers who would all be solid replacements for a guy who really doesn’t need to be replaced.
