The favorites in the Big Ten fared well last week straight up. A few, although victorious, were unable to cover the point spread. This week presents another slate of conference games to predict against the spread.
It’s another light week in the Big Ten Conference with only five games scheduled. Conference heavyweights Ohio State and Michigan State have byes in Week 9. Still, there are some interesting matchups, which also bring some interesting point spreads, to keep an eye on.
However, before looking ahead to this week’s slate of games, let’s revisit what went on in the Big Ten during Week 8. There were 10 teams in action, with Nebraska, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State being tabbed as the favorites. All of those teams but Nebraska came out victorious. However, only Michigan State, Wisconsin and Ohio State covered the spread.
Nebraska was upset by a Northwestern team that was undefeated just two weeks ago, while Penn State was taken down to the wire in a one-point win over Maryland. Ohio State and Michigan State won easily over Rutgers and Indiana respectively, while Wisconsin struggled a bit but pulled out an 11-point victory over a tough and scrappy Illinois team.
With eight weeks of the season now complete, the Big Ten has four teams ranked in the AP Top 25. Ohio State still occupies the top spot and Michigan State moved up to No. 6 with its win over Indiana. Iowa checks in at No. 10 and Michigan is currently at No. 15.
As for this week, Iowa and Michigan the only ranked Big Ten teams that’s are in action.
