College Football Rankings: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 9
How the AP Top 25 poll should look heading into Week 10 after a relatively boring week of action from the top 25 teams.
Five of the top seven teams in the AP Top 25 poll were on a bye this week so there won’t be any dramatic changes in the Week 10 AP Top 25 poll.
Ohio State, Baylor, LSU, Michigan State and Alabama all had the week off so they could do some trick or treating and get healthy and rested for November to chase down conference titles and one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff.
Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers were the highest ranked team in action this weekend and Deshaun Watson and his teammates put on an offensive showing as Watson threw five touchdowns to five different receivers and even ran in a score to remain undefeated. Could the 56-41 win over NC State be enough to push Clemson past Baylor for the No. 2 spot?
Baylor was off this week and they needed the bye week after quarterback Seth Russell suffered a season-ending neck injury last week. True freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham replaces him and the former five-star recruit is talented but his inexperience could cost them some votes this week, even though they didn’t do anything to hurt themselves.
The only game this week featuring two ranked teams was in Philadelphia, PA where College GameDay was in attendance for the game between the No. 9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the No. 21 Temple Owls.
It looked like Temple would pull off the home upset, but the Owls defense couldn’t make a play late as Will Fuller scored a touchdown with a tick more than two minutes left in the game and Temple threw an interception as they tried to mount a comeback.
They fell a little short and moral victories don’t mean much, but credit Matt Ruhle and the program he’s built in Philly. Now, let’s take a look at how the AP Top 25 should look on Sunday afternoon.
