It brought back memories of Stanford-Cal but the only thing missing was the band on the field as Miami somehow found a way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat from the Duke Blue Devils.

Miami needed eight laterals to cover 75 yards and what felt like an eternity as officials replayed the game-winning return for the Hurricanes as they had one of the more remarkable and unbelievable finishes to a game in college football history.

Duke thought they had the game in hand when they scored the go-ahead touchdown on a Tomas Sirk touchdown run with six seconds left in the game.

Corn Elder was the last Miami player to touch the ball and he took it to the house in what has to go down as the best play we’ve seen so far in college football this season. The officials reviewed it and even went back to review it after a premature announcement that teased the crowd waiting for closure even more.

One week after Georgia Tech beat Florida State at the buzzer after returning a blocked field goal and two weeks after Michigan State returned a fumbled punt snap for a touchdown at the buzzer, this one may take the cake.

There were a couple instances where it was close as to whether the lateral was backwards or not, but the real question as to why the review was so lengthy was to determine if any players knees touched the ground before the ball left their hands and if there were any blocks in the back.

The referees didn’t determine any of the questionable blocks to be illegal and said they were on the side, but there was at least one instance where it looked like a Miami player’s knee was on the ground.

The same was said about Cal when they ran back the kick against Stanford to stun the Cardinal and keep John Elway from a bowl game.

But this caps what’s been an emotional week for Miami who saw Al Golden fired and Larry Scott named the interim coach and one of their players had his mother pass away.

Miami needed this win and just when it looked like they were on their way to another brutal loss, a miracle happened.
