College Football Playoff National Championship Game host sites for 2018-2020
The sites for the 2018, 2019 and 2020 College Football National Championship Game sites were announced on Wednesday, one day after the initial playoff rankings for the 2015 season.
Atlanta, Bay Area (Santa Clara), Houston and South Florida were in the running to host the 2018 College Football National Championship Game, but the winning bid went to Atlanta and their brand new stadium.
Atlanta is used to hosting the SEC Championship Game and the Chick-fil-A kickoff classic to open the year, so this should be a nice venue and atmosphere for college football fans flocking to the area to see the championship game.
The cities in the running to host the 2019 game are Bay Area (Santa Clara), Charlotte, Detroit, Houston, New Orleans and San Antonio with the winning bid going to Santa Clara and their new stadium that’s home to the San Francisco 49ers. The opportunity to play in a state-of-the-art stadium and play on the west coast was too much to pass up.
Bay Area (Santa Clara), Charlotte, Houston, Minnesota, New Orleans and San Antonio were in the mix to host the 2020 game, but the winning bid went to New Orleans, and how can you blame them, it’s one of the greatest cities in the world and is used to hosting major championship events in other sports.
Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football Playoff encouraged the cities who didn’t see their bids win this time around to do so again for future years.

I’d have no problem with New Orleans hosting the game every single year, but other than the winning cities, a game in Minneapolis and their new stadium could be a nice event in the future, but the media members covering the game could be scared off by the frigid weather and feet of snow on the ground.
