Nebraska was victimized by heartbreaking losses all year as their first five losses were by a combined 13 points and were reeling after an embarrassing loss to Purdue, but there will be much rejoicing tonight after a comeback win handed Michigan State their first loss of the year.
With Tommy Armstrong back in the lineup, the Huskers quarterback orchestrated a game-winning touchdown drive in the final minute with a four-play, 91-yard drive in 38 seconds with Brandon Reilly catching a controversial 30-yard touchdown with 17 seconds left for the decisive score.
It was a controversial score because Reilly left the field of play and was the first player to touch the ball. He didn’t look like he was pushed out on this replay, courtesy of Dr. Saturday, but the call was upheld after a review.
To say Nebraska needed this win to avoid falling to 3-7 is an understatement and keeps their bowl hopes alive, although they’ll need to beat another undefeated Iowa team to get there in the regular season finale on Nov. 27.

Meanwhile, Michigan State finally gets burned after playing with fire earlier this season after narrow wins against Rutgers and Purdue.
Whether they didn’t take Nebraska seriously and fell into the dreaded trap game mentality with Ohio State up in two weeks or not, this is an ugly loss for Mark Dantonio’s team, even though they still can win the Big Ten East.
Michigan State always had to beat Ohio State to win the division and get to the Big Ten Championship Game, but if they allowed 499 yards and 39 points to an anemic Nebraska offense, what’s going to happen against the No. 1 scoring offense in the Big Ten when they play the Buckeyes?
