If they handed out the Heisman Trophy at Halloween it would have been a landslide win for LSU Tigers sophomore running back and the nation’s leading rusher, Leonard Fournette, but after his pedestrian outing vs. Alabama and the show Derrick Henry put on, we may have a new leader.
Fournette was limited to 34 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown in the fourth quarter with LSU trailing 30-10 as LSU had no answer for the Crimson Tide defense and the Tigers defense had no answer for junior running back Derrick Henry.
Henry finished with 210 yards on a beast-like 38 carries and three touchdowns and outgained the entire LSU offense himself that only managed 182 yards on 45 plays.

This was Henry’s second 200-yard game in the last three games after he ran for a career-high 236 yards against Texas A&M and he has enough momentum to seize the top spot in the mythical Heisman standings thanks in part to the Alabama defense that made Fournette look mortal.
It’s far from over and we should know not to crown anyone in college football with how much things can change in one week and Fournette is far from out of the conversation, but the Heisman is now Henry’s to lose.
And it may take Alabama losing another game for that to happen, and that scenario seems unlikely after blowing out the toughest opponent they’ll see all season as Alabama controls their destiny in the SEC West and Henry controls his fate in the Heisman chase.
