The Miami Hurricanes are under the impression that Charlie Strong is interested in their head coaching position.

As the regular season draws closer to an end the coaching rumors are going to heat up and that includes in Austin where Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong has come under fire for the lack of immediate results.

Texas has a win over the rival Oklahoma Sooners earlier this year but not much else has gone right for the 4-5 Longhorns who suffered an ugly 24-0 loss at dreadful Iowa State two games ago.

Should Texas decide it’s just not working out and decide to fire Strong after only two years, he may not be on the unemployment line long with people at Miami believing he’s interested in the Canes, according to the Miami Herald.

“Though public denials would be expected, UM people are under the impression that Texas’ Charlie Strong and Cincinnati’s Tommy Tuberville have interest in the UM job,”Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “Strong is considered an appealing candidate if he and Texas part ways, but that likely wouldn’t happen until after the Longhorn’s regular-season finale Dec. 5.”

Of course, he’d be an appealing candidate because he has ties to the state after serving as an assistant on Urban Meyer’s staff with the Florida Gators and if Miami is going to return to national prominence they need to raid the state of the top prospects.

However, this may be wishful thinking on the part of Miami because unless Strong is fired, I don’t see a scenario where he’d leave one of the best jobs in the country at Texas for a job at Miami that isn’t as glamorous as it was 15 years ago.

Miami may have better luck with Butch Davis returning to the place he once coached or taking a chance on former Canes player and current Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal instead of the long shot that is Strong.

Miami fired Al Golden earlier this year in his first season after a 58-0 loss vs Clemson, the worst loss in program history.
