Things are going from bad to worse for Wisconsin running back Corey Clement.
The Badgers running back was assaulted in the early morning hours of Sunday after he saw a group of people having a verbal dispute between a security guard as he was heading to his off-campus residence. Clement tried to intervene and dissolve the situation but the group assaulted Clement and the security guard, leaving Clement with a cut on his hand.
It’s not known if the cut to his hand will cost him any time, but it’s already been a season that’s been lost to injury for Clement who missed his eighth game last Saturday after he didn’t even travel as he recovers from sports hernia surgery.
Clement was supposed to take the reins in the Wisconsin run game this year after nearly rushing for 1,000 yards in a reserve role behind Melvin Gordon last year, but the season was over before it even started for Clement after he was injured two days before the season opener against Alabama in practice.
He played in the game but had to leave after only eight carries and 16 yards. He later had sports hernia surgery that kept him out for the next seven games before returning for the Oct. 31 game against Rutgers.

Clement ran for 115 yards on 11 carries and with three touchdowns, but looked noticeably slowed on his final run of the game when he was caught from behind on a 58-yard gain. Clement didn’t play last week as he deals with lingering pain and soreness from the surgery, but was present at practice on Wednesday although he didn’t participate.
Wisconsin has a bye this week and his status will be reevaluated next week, but Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst will not speak about the incident as police investigate the matter.
The Badgers next take on Northwestern on Nov. 21 on Senior Day.
