Mississippi State is mourning the loss of freshman defensive end Keith Joseph Jr. who was tragically killed in a one-car accident Nov. 6 along with his father and former Bulldog player Keith Joseph Sr but his spirit and his jersey will be on the field Saturday against Alabama.
Freshman safety Jamal Peters is going to wear Joseph’s jersey during the SEC West showdown against the Tide to honor his best friend, brother and teammate according to the Mississippi State football twitter account. Mississippi State will also wear a special helmet decal to honor their fallen teammate.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the tragic loss of Keith Jr. and his father,” Dan Mullen said following the accident. “Keith had such a promising future as a Bulldog following in the legacy started by Keith Sr., who played for our program 25 years ago. Keith was a great student, a hard worker and a great teammate to all of us.

“With heavy hearts, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Joseph family, our entire Mississippi State community and all of the lives these Bulldogs touched.”
Peters was a standout safety and one of the top recruits in the state of Mississippi and at the safety position but this tribute to his fallen teammate shows his heart is just as big as his talent on the field. He has 17 tackles in eight games this season for the No. 17 Bulldogs.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on CBS.
