There were reports circulating on Friday that the current Alabama offensive coordinator and former USC and Tennessee head coach interviewed for the vacant job at Maryland. The Terps fired Randy Edsall midseason and Mike Locksley has served as the interim head coach since, but could Kiffin get the job and lead Maryland for the foreseeable future?

No. Not according to Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel who reports Maryland did not talk to Kiffin and has no plans to talk to Kiffin.

Kiffin went 7-6 in his lone season at Tennessee before leaving for the job at USC where he previously served on the staff of Pete Carroll during the Trojans reign during their dynasty days at the turn of the century.

His tenure at USC began with a great deal of optimism with a 8-5 season in the first year and a 10-2 year in his second year with a Pac-12 South division title and a No. 6 ranking in the final AP poll. USC began the next year as the preseason No. 1 but finished a disappointing 7-6 and unranked.

Kiffin was fired the next year after a 3-2 start. He resurfaced with Alabama in 2014 and did a fine job turning Blake Sims into one of the nation’s highest rated passers and turned in a Biletnikoff Award season for Amari Cooper.

If he wants a head coaching job after this year, he could get it, because teams are going to put some stock into his working for Nick Saban for two years, but it looks like it just won’t be at Maryland.
