With Tennessee’s poor field constitutions becoming apparent, North Texas decided to have some fun with the issue Saturday.

Most of the time, football fields are the last thing on the minds of coaches when it comes to potential obstacles in a game.
However, on Saturday, complaints ran rampant about the field conditions at Neyland Stadium, home of the Tennessee Volunteers.
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones had noted that players were slipping on the field during the South Carolina game last week, and when it happened again to the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday, the program’s Twitter account decided to have a little fun.
Despite the choppy field of play, that did not seem to affect the Volunteers too much as Tennessee rolled to a 24-0 win behind 127 yards and two touchdowns ironically enough from the ground game of running back Alvin Kamara.
With the win, Butch Jones’ crew improved to 6-4 on the year while North Texas dropped to 1-9. The win made the Volunteers bowl eligible.

I can remember when the New England Patriots had this problem too. They ended up installing field turf after complaints, and since then, things have gone smoother. Installing field turf is an expensive ordeal, but could something like that be in the works for the Vols?
They certainly have the money to make it happen. I would have to think it would certainly be a topic of discussion now. At the very least, conversations should be had on how to maintain the playing surface so this does not occur.
Tennessee travels to Missouri next Saturday for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff while the Mean Green travel to Middle Tennessee State for a noon kickoff with the Blue Raiders.
Hopefully in both games next week, field conditions will be up to par.
