The Florida State Seminoles are going with Sean Maguire as the starting quarterback for the rest of the season as Everett Golson takes a seat on the bench.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher announced on Monday that Sean Maguire will assume the starting quarterback duties for the Seminoles for the rest of the year. Maguire, a junior, will get a head start on gaining some more reps so he can enter the 2016 season with more experience and try to get the Noles back to the top of the ACC standings.
Maguire has completed 64 percent of his passes for 816 yards with six touchdowns to only two interceptions. He started the game against Syracuse with Golson recovering from a concussion and threw for 348 yards and three touchdowns. But didn’t experience the same level of success the following week against the No. 1 Clemson Tigers, throwing for 164 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception.
That poor performance and Golson being healthy saw Maguire go back to the bench but Golson was benched after throwing two interceptions on his first nine attempts in the win against NC State on Saturday.
Maguire came in and completed 18 of 28 passes for 231 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the 34-17 win.
Golson transferred from Notre Dame after spring practice and edged Maguire in fall camp for the starting job in the first year without former Heisman winner Jameis Winston under center.

He started out strong and didn’t turn the ball over at the same alarming rate he did with the Fighting Irish with 11 touchdowns and didn’t throw his first interception until the seventh game. But the turnovers reared their ugly head against NC State and it may have just ended Golson’s college career.
I think Fisher is making the smart move here turning to Maguire because Florida State isn’t competing for the ACC or College Football Playoff this year with a pair of losses so it makes sense to give Maguire some time to get him ready for next year.

Florida State will have incoming freshman Malik Henry, the No. 43 overall recruit and No. 4 pro-style quarterback recruit competing for the job next year, but the most likely outcome is Henry redshirting as a freshman with Maguire starting his last year and Henry taking over in 2017.
