Report: Les Miles could be fired even if LSU Tigers win out

Les Miles could be fired from LSU even if the Tigers win out.

LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles is reportedly coaching for his job in the last two games of the regular season.

Scott Rabalais of The Advocate wrote earlier this week that there are strong indications Miles is coaching for his job this weekend against Ole Miss and next week vs. Texas A&M in the regular season finale. He later added three scenarios that could decide the fate of Miles.

The first is LSU wins out, which leads Rabalais to write he’d be safe. The second scenario is LSU loses out and there would be little chance he’d be allowed to return. The third is they split the last two games and would depend on how close they close they lost and how impressive the win was.

So basically if he wins, he’s safe. If he loses, he’s out. If he does both, then stay tuned.

However, The Advertiser reports that LSU could win the last two games and Miles may still not be safe.

“I think if he wins the next two games, it’s still something that needs to be looked at,” LSU board of supervisors member Ronald Anderson said. “It’s the way they lost the two games.”

“If he wins them both, that complicates it,” Anderson told the paper. “That’s my opinion. It’s not just the number of losses, but the quality of the losses. The next two games are really important to deciding the future of the program. And you’ve got to look at the progress of the program from the standpoint of a number of years.”

More from Saturday Blitz

LSU is coming off back-to-back losses to Alabama and Arkansas and weren’t very competitive in either and are the underdog in Saturday afternoon’s game against Ole Miss, but Miles has never lost three straight games at LSU. If that trend holds true, I would have to think he’s safe for next year.

But there seems to be a growing segment of LSU boosters and board members who aren’t pleased with the recent slide in SEC play and LSU’s inability to beat Alabama in particular.

LSU is 7-2 after beginning the year 7-0 and ranked as high as No. 2 in the country. How quick things can change in college football. During his 11 seasons as LSU, Miles is 110–32 and won the national championship in 2007.
