Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher addressed the rumors about Les Miles at LSU.

Les Miles may be fired by LSU at the end of the season and the ideal candidate to replace him could be Florida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher.

The Seminoles head coach came to Tallahassee after a successful stint as the offensive coordinator at LSU from 2000-2006 under Nick Saban and later under Miles. Could a return to Baton Rouge be in store for Fisher? Fisher addressed the rumors linking him as the top candidate to replace Miles, should Miles be fired, at Monday’s press conference.

According to Tom D’Angelo of the Palm Beach Post, Fisher issued a no comment and referred to his policy where he says he doesn’t speak about jobs because it’s unfair to everyone and topped that off by saying there’s not even a job as LSU to talk about.

A “no comment” says so much without saying anything. He could have said something like, “I have the best job in the country as the head football coach at Florida State and I have no interest in leaving this program and players behind.”

Something like that would have alleviated most concerns from the passionate Florida State fan base, but the no comment will certainly leave them skeptical should the job open up after LSU’s season finale against Texas A&M this weekend or after their bowl game and there’s something for Fisher to think about.

I think Fisher could be interested in returning to LSU, but staying at Florida State where they are in a “rebuilding” year and still in line to finish in the top 15, play in a much easier division and conference and have one of the few recruiting grounds that’s better than what LSU has in Louisiana.

Plus, he wouldn’t have to deal with the unrealistic expectations and pressure that LSU would place on him. If LSU fires Miles, they’re saying winning 110 games in 11 years, having more NFL players on active rosters and the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation isn’t enough.

Fisher may be able to replicate Miles’ record at LSU and have similar success, but if it’s only going to be similar, why make the change for change’s sake when he’s at a premium job already at Florida State?
