17. Pete Carroll

  • Career Record: 97-19
  • Record at Each School: 97-19 at USC.
  • Bowl Record: 7-2
  • Honors and Awards: 1 National Championship. 2003 Coach of the Year, 2-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year. 6 BCS Bowl Game wins.

Pete Carroll failed to win at least 11 games only twice from 2001-2009 at USC, the only school he ever coached in college. He was one of the best coaches in USC history and continued his success in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks.

Carroll had an uncanny ability to recruit and develop talent at USC. While he was the head coach, USC had 25 first-team All-Americans, two combined losses to rivals Notre Dame and UCLA, 63 straight 25-point games, 14 first round NFL draft picks and 53 players drafted, seven straight BCS bowl appearances and six BCS bowl wins, and four top-five recruiting classes.

That’s quite the resume.

Infamously, USC and Carroll were stripped of their 2004 BCS National Championship and all of their victories from their 2005 season were voided. It seemed as though the Trojans had lost everything, Reggie Bush even had his Heisman Trophy vacated. USC lost 30 scholarships and they were banned from playing in bowl games for two years. This was clearly not the brightest hour for Carroll during his time in Los Angeles.
