Jarrett Stidham injury update: Baylor QB out for season with broken ankle
Baylor Bears quarterback Jarrett Stidham is out for the rest of the year with a broken ankle on top of a myriad of other ailments.
Art Briles and the Baylor Bears will rely on third-string quarterback Chris Johnson for the rest of the season with true freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham out for the rest of the year with a broken ankle.
Stidham left last week’s win against Oklahoma State with the injury and was also dealing with back and hand issues that prevented from him getting back on the field. Stidham completed 75-of-109 passes for 1,265 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions while adding a pair of scores on the ground.
He replaced Seth Russell who broke a bone in his neck and was lost for the season when he was leading the nationin touchdown passes and passer rating.
So in comes Johnson as he looks to play the role of Cardale Jones from last year when the Ohio State Buckeyes’ third-string quarterback entered the lineup when J.T. Barrett was injured in the season finale and helped guide the Buckeyes to the national championship.
Could Johnson follow a similar path and lead Baylor to wins against TCU and Texas and get the Bears into the four-team College Football Playoff?
Wins against TCU and Texas are possible, if not likely, but the No. 7 Bears need some help to crack the top four. If Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Iowa and Michigan State lose this weekend and/or next, Baylor has a shot, but that’s a lot that has to happen.

In any event, Baylor has seen a number of different quarterbacks lead Briles’ offense since he came to Waco and the one thing they all have in common is playing at a high level and producing big numbers. I’d expect Johnson to do the same.
