Les Miles is, according to practically every media outlet imaginable, on his way out as head coach of the LSU Tigers, so where would be some good landing spots for “The Hat”?

It’s been all over the news. LSU is “prepared” to fire Les Miles. The LSU boosters will buyout Les Miles’ contract. Les Miles is to be fired by this Saturday or Sunday. Everyone seems sure that Les Miles is done in Baton Rouge except Les Miles (who is regurgitating the typically bland PR answers when asked about his future).

But based on the assumption that Miles is finished at LSU, he will certainly have to land somewhere. It’s doubtful that Miles would simply retire, although it wouldn’t be out of the question for him to take a year or two working as an analyst for one of the networks. But the safe bet is that he’ll be back prowling the sidelines…

Somewhere.

The question then becomes, where? There’s certainly no shortage of quality jobs available, and there will probably be more to come. Some of these positions can be eliminated right off the bat, however.

You can cross South Carolina off the list. The rumors are that Houston head coach Tom Herman will be taking his talents (and offense) to Columbia. Even if that weren’t the case, Miles isn’t a good fit for a program that is in desperate need of an offensive jump start.

Same can be said for USC. The Trojans will find someone who can recruit and coach-up quarterbacks and design modern-day offensive sets…not exactly Miles’ strong points. That goes double for Georgia if they were to part ways with Mark Richt.

Syracuse and Maryland can probably be thrown out because those are really no-win situations even for a great coach. North Texas, Louisiana-Monroe, Hawaii and Iowa State aren’t really high profile (or rich) enough to attract Miles. That leaves us with a few current openings and speculation on a one more possibility.
