College GameDay headed to Big Ten Championship Game between Iowa and Michigan State
College GameDay will be in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and Michigan State Spartans.
It’s the Big Ten Championship Game that no one saw coming. The undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes won their season finale against Nebraska after clinching the Big Ten West one week earlier but they had to wait to find out who their opponent would be on Saturday.
The Ohio State Buckeyes got a win against the Michigan Wolverines to stay alive for a berth in the Big Ten title game, but the Michigan State Spartans didn’t let them get in the back door after blowing out the Penn State Nittany Lions to clinch the division.
It may be the title game no one saw coming, but ESPN’s College GameDay is going to be there to take in this Cinderella Story to see who will punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff. The winner is assured of getting in the four-team playoff no matter what happens elsewhere and it’s just as surprising to see Iowa in the title game as it is not seeing Ohio State, but that’s where we find ourselves.
No matter how surprising it may be to see Iowa in the title game, it’s not a disservice to the job Kirk Ferentz has done with his team in what may be his finest coaching job of his remarkable career.
Iowa plays smart, disciplined, physical and efficient football. They aren’t flashy and aren’t loaded with former five-star recruits and future first round picks, but they get the job done and the scoreboard says they’re perfect.
They’ll have their hands full with Michigan State who got quarterback Connor Cook back after missing the win against Ohio State and he threw three touchdowns in the win and the defense is playing its best football of the year.
