Pac-12 power rankings entering Week 14 see Stanford trying to hold off USC for conference supremacy, but is Oregon really the best team?
What a final week for the Pac-12. The home team was victorious in all six games, including big time wins for USC and Stanford, who will play for the Pac-12 Championship Game on Saturday with the Cardinal having a sliver of a chance to crash the College Football Playoff.
The two bottom feeders of the conference this season, Oregon State and Colorado, both showed great fight against their rivals, but came up short. The only two teams to miss bowl eligibility, they’ll look forward to growing and getting prepared for next season.
Arizona was finally on their bye week, which gives another week of rest for the bowl game. Meanwhile their counterparts, the Arizona State Sun Devils, lost by the means of a go-ahead field goal up in Berkley, and the two Arizona schools will finish the regular season with a 6-6 record, needing a bowl win for a winning record.
Washington dominated their rival Cougars, and took advantage of a rookie quarterback. That propelled the Huskies just a bit in the rankings, and got them into bowl season, giving the Pac-12 10 bowl eligible teams.
The Los Angeles schools battled it out for the Pac-12 South, and Clay Helton’s Trojans proved to be the best team in LA, ending a three game losing streak to the Bruins.
Oregon persevered and beat their rivals, and finish the season in the rankings where no one thought they would, given their three early losses. And Stanford, the leader of the Pac, ended Notre Dame’s playoff hopes with a game-winning field goal, and will head into the Pac-12 Championship Game will momentum.
