Orange Bowl Odds: What’s the point spread for Clemson – Oklahoma?
Point spread for the Orange Bowl between the Clemson Tigers who will play the Oklahoma Sooners on Dec. 31.
The College Football Playoff field is set and one of the semifinal games is a rematch of a bowl from last year when Clemson routed Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl. This year, however, the stakes are much higher with the two teams meeting in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve for the right to get to the National Championship Game.
There will be plenty of time to break down the game from all angles, but the first angle we’ll take a look at is the angle the gamblers are most interested in.
What’s the point spread for the Orange Bowl?
According to Las Vegas Superbook, the point spread for the Orange Bowl between Clemson and Oklahoma is -2.5 for the Sooners.
So that means Vegas thinks the Sooners are a 2.5 point favorite over the Tigers.
I’m positive this line is sure to move up and down over the next three and a half weeks until kickoff on New Year’s Eve from Miami, Fla. but the opening line is mildly surprising that the No. 1 Clemson Tigers are actually the underdog.
Clemson has been the No. 1 team in the playoff rankings for every release this year and capped their undefeated season with a win over No. 10 North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game. They’re led by a Heisman candidate in quarterback Deshaun Watson and a defense that’s made plays all year, especially on third downs.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma is led by a Heisman candidate at quarterback too in Baker Mayfield who leads a rejuvenated offense with Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon complementing Mayfield in the passing game. Their defense was the best in the Big 12 and can get after the quarterback so this should be an exciting game.
