California vs. Air Force

Another service academy who can run the ball like crazy, against a Cal team with an NFL-ready quarterback, Jared Goff. Gotta love bowl games.

The Falcons were the Mountain West Conference runner-up, but have really been scrapping on defense, especially towards the end of the season. They finished 39th in the nation, giving up only 23 points per game, but during their last four games (one of their toughest stretches) they gave up nearly 30 points per game.

Cal was hot early in the season, and had a lot of folks on Tightwad Hill excited. But the Golden Bears struggled in the middle of the season, losing four straight to elite Pac-12 opponents. Even the games the Bears won this season were high-scoring shootouts. If Air Force played bad defense at the end of the season, then Cal played none.

Line: Cal, -7

This one is hard to figure because of the disparity in the two conferences these teams come from. But even with bad defense, Air Force won’t be able to score enough to keep up with Cal. The Bears cover 7, but no more.
