Western Kentucky is looking to close their season with a win in the Miami Beach Bowl after winning their first Conference USA title earlier this month. Quarterback Brandon Doughty has been one of the more productive players in the country and leads the No. 6 passing offense and No. 4 scoring offense into battle against Willie Taggert’s South Florida Bulls.

South Florida enters the game on a four-game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight, with the lone loss during that span coming at Navy. While Western Kentucky will look to move the ball through the air, USF relies on their ground game that averages 242.9 yards per game, good for the No. 11 rushing offense in the nation.

And they have a defense that’s made significant improvements as the season went on after starting 1-3. The Bulls defense ranks No. 23 in scoring defense, allowing 21.1 points per game, but it’ll be the nation’s No. 61 pass defense that will decide whether the Bulls win their fifth straight or if it’ll be Western Kentucky to run their winning streak to six games.

Prediction

It’s been a great coaching job by Taggert to get South Florida to win seven of their last eight games and rebound after a rough start that could have derailed the rest of their season and even cost them a bowl game. Running back Marlon Mack is one of the best players you may not have heard from before and the program is in capable hands of quarterback Quinton Flowers.

However, I’m taking Western Kentucky in this one with Doughty being the difference. South Florida has a good defense, but the are vulnerable through the air, which is a dangerous proposition when you’re facing Doughty and his array of weapons.
